The history of bulimia is old. Even in ancient Rome, people used to throw the food consumed in the holiday period. There were even special places for it called “vomitorium.” There are many memories of these events in the books of ancient Rome. The Roman emperors Claudius and Vitellius were bulimic.

In some cultures, others such as Egypt are purged every month for three consecutive days, with vomiting and enemas for maintaining health. They thought that human diseases come from food.

In Europe, the Middle Ages purgation was used as a remedy against many diseases and to advocate a middle-aged doctor.

In ancient Greece and Arabia there were also descriptions in texts of binging and purging.

But all these ancient practices of binging and purging are similar but not the same as what we call “bulimia” now. There was no evidence of a quest for thinness is obvious trait in all modern bulimics among lean women were not the normal way for women.

Among the tests that have been reported, it is clear that bulimia, and now presented was not known until the late 20′s.

In the 1970 cases were reported in the literature of three patients in whom overeating alternated with less to eat and was classified as anorexia nervosa. One patient vomited and two others had a lot of laxatives to get rid of food.

The first modern description of bulimia nervosa was published in 1979 by Dr. Russell. Declared the result of his research that overeating and vomiting may have been common practices among students who attend otherwise normal North American universities. He said that the state has always been more relevant to women.

There is no doubt that incidents of bulimia has increased significantly in the 1980s and exceeded the incidence of anorexia nervosa.

There are still many outstanding issues concerning bulimia.

Questions like, is a bulimia of a new disease or the same disease that has been known for centuries, but appears as a different version? And what made bulimia increase so significantly in recent decades? Was it modern pressure to be thin or more like inherited personality traits, or both?

To conclude, bulimia bulimia simple as has been known since antiquity. But the “bulimia” term can be applied to cases in which the stories were published before 1979. Simply because the reasons in the past to binge and purge, then were different from today and the psychological aspects are also different.

The modern term “bulimia” is not just the simple practice of bingeing and purging, now there are certain personality traits behind the term. These features include addictive tendencies, problems of impulse control, obsession with weight and general appearance and certain personality disorders may be associated with the duration of bulimia.

So my opinion is that bulimia is a new disease of our time that has arisen due to the intense pressure to look slim. Also the fact that they are used by many victims as a coping mechanism for the extra effort that we have today in our lives.

Modern medicine and put their trust in the cognitive behavioral therapy to treat bulimia. Although there are some initial success has shown that it is a failure in most patients that the disease continues to evolve.

The new way forward in treating the disease is to eliminate the subconscious blocks that have been shown to disrupt and detain a person for recovery. As more and more one knows how the mind works medicine has to move with the flow of discovery and not based on a methodology obsolete.

But unfortunately, during the history of medicine has never moved at a rapid pace, which many of those who do not learn the new methods will have to suffer needlessly until medicine catches up.

Bulimia is an eating disorder in which victims are subjected to periods of excessive and often secret, followed by forced purging. Purging can take various forms, such as induced vomiting or excessive use of laxatives, diuretics or enemas. Bulimic, but not always, literally, their bodies bleed food. There are other ways to express bulimia – a binge eating disorder may follow an encounter with a period of severe fasting or excessive exercise.

The first effects of bulimia are often of stomach aches – the victim may choose to ignore. In cases where vomiting, laxatives and diuretics are used, the dehydration can be a serious problem because it can lead to electrolyte imbalance internally. Electrolytes are essential to maintain the body functions efficiently and ensure healthy teeth, bones, kidneys, heart and nerve function. It is also important for fusion. An electrolyte imbalance can cause confusion and dizziness and weakness – an experience familiar with bulimia. In addition, low levels of potassium can cause serious problems such as irregular heartbeat, kidney failure and even death.

Surprisingly, prolonged use of laxatives can cause constipation, mainly because of dehydration. This is due to laxatives affect the body’s ability to regulate a proper fluid balance. Constipation can be compounded by the saddles of bulimic irregular because of repeated purges.

Bulimics who use vomiting as a means of purification appears acid from the stomach into the mouth, causing erosion of tooth enamel. A long-term eating disorder often have very little truncated teeth that have literally been eaten away by frequent contact with digestive acids. Teeth may look yellow and unhealthy. Stomach acid can also cause gum infections, cavities and ulcers in the mouth, and in general can be sensitive to hot and cold food. Besides the obvious discomfort it causes, is also likely to have an adverse effect on bulimia self esteem at a moment when it will be too low.

Stomach acid can also cause irritation of the esophagus as the acid moves into the mouth and can cause heartburn. In more extreme cases may even rupture of the stomach or esophagus as the acid burns on the fabric and made of fine blood vessels to bleed.

Bulimia may suffer from malnutrition as well. A severe deficiency in protein, iron, minerals and vitamins can cause major health problems such as heart attacks, respiratory infections, kidney failure, blindness and death. Bulimia may even have weight fluctuations due to irregular eating habits. Purge the body get rid of all calories consumed and despite their best efforts, patients may gain weight over time.

Other effects of bulimia are the cessation of menstruation in women, dry skin, hands and feet were swelling and broken blood vessels in the eye. Constant fear of gaining weight and feeling fat often leads to an obsession with food and exercise resulting from depression and feelings of worthlessness.

People with bulimia need, and should seek professional help. Treatments may also include counseling and therapy to help build confidence with a healthy diet and exercise program. This will not only have a positive effect on the victim but also their families and friends.

Beautiful means slim. If not, is not pretty. Not sexy. The concept of such a constellation of psychological influence people. If not pretty, people can not believe it myself. The concept that in turn affect diet.

Disrupted eating patterns due to psychological factors like this is called with bulimia nervosa. “Usually it was attacking people bulimia teens and adults who are victims of fashion or magazine that said that the beautiful woman slim,” said dr. Inayah, SPG, from Hang Keliu Clinic, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

People with bulimia nervosa are usually not directly caught by someone else because of normal weight and not too straight. However, beneath it all, their confidence is low and they often experience depression. They will show the cumulative behavior, such as shoplifting at the supermarket or through dependence on alcohol or other.

Symptoms and danger. People with bulimia nervosa will eat in very excessive. According to research, an average of bulimia nervosa patients consuming 3400 calories per one-quarter of an hour, whereas normally only need 2000-3000 calories per day. If so, the body of minerals such as potassium zodium and will be disturbed.

Patients also will strive to get back what you’ve eaten in a way brings back or by using laxatives. “At least twice a week they will eat their favorite foods so much. After that, they will issue a return,” said dr. Inayah. Regularly use drugs to prevent the weight was easy to ride. Not infrequently they exercise excessively.

At the time of food eaten out, and potassium zodium also out. “If that happens, the patient will become weak and the heart pounding,” he said. In addition, patients can develop osteoporosis when calcium come out.

Vomiting repeatedly can damage the stomach and esophagus channel, the channel between the esophagus and stomach, because it forces the stomach to perform unnatural contractions. Gastric acid out with vomiting, said dr. Inayah, will make the gums shrink and erode tooth enamel. “If we are wrong in striking at the throat it will cause a mild stroke,” he said.

Once again, bulimia nervosa is influenced by psychological factors. If these factors are not immediately addressed, the bulimic will feel afraid to see the food. It is usually referred to as anorexia. “By eating just one bite, he would feel gaining weight,” he continued. This disease can improve or even worsened. Could increasingly worse with no signs of improvement at all.

The patient’s body reacts to these conditions by stopping some processes, such as reducing blood pressure, breathing weaken, menstruation stops, and out teroid glands that regulate the growth disappeared. The skin becomes dry and brittle hair and nails. If this interference could not be handled immediately, the patient could die.

Handling. The first thing that must be done to overcome this is to eliminate interference factors. The patient should be relaxed and fully aware that each body has his own genetic template. There is a thin, there are athletic. “Not everyone has a thin body and tall,” he said. In addition, patients also should be aware that the composition of different muscles. There was a stout and there is not.

It must be realized also that each body has different types. People who body fat below, better health risk than fat on the top. Especially the fat in the abdomen. Therefore, a healthy diet should be maintained to avoid obesity.

In addition to the set pattern of healthy eating, bulimia can also be treated with hypnotherapy were continuous treatment. Hypnotherapy can not stand alone without looking at the nutritional bulimic, “added Jovita Trikomandito, Cevtifird hypnotherapist from Hang Lekiu.

The therapy is carried out by Jovita is to bring the patient into the subconscious and change someone’s behavior so as to increase the awareness, health, and ability to reach their goals better life.
